Swiss alpine routes for a supercar road trip

Plan a Ferrari alpine trip from Zurich: Klausen, Furka, Grimsel, Susten and longer journeys, with seasonal closures, timing and rental options.

Choose a Swiss alpine drive that fits your time

A supercar alpine trip should start with a realistic route. A single pass from Zurich is a different day from the Furka, Grimsel and Susten loop based in Andermatt. This guide brings together our customer stories and route ideas, with seasonal planning notes rather than fixed promises about opening dates.

Start with your available days, then choose the roads. Include the journey from Zurich, fuel stops, meals and the return in your plan. For several high passes, an overnight base usually makes more sense than attempting to compress the experience into a short rental.

Klausen Pass from Zurich

Follow the Glarus valley to Linthal and climb towards Urnerboden and the pass. Our story follows a couple on a six-hour rental with unlimited kilometres. Treat the timing as their experience, not a guaranteed schedule for every day.

Andermatt: Furka, Grimsel, Susten and Nufenen

The classic three-pass loop runs from Andermatt over Furka to Gletsch, across Grimsel to Innertkirchen and over Susten to Wassen before returning to Andermatt. Nufenen fits better as a separate day. Allow several days for a relaxed journey from Zurich.

Graubünden and the road to Maranello

Flüela and Ofen Pass lead towards Val Müstair and Italy on a longer journey. Agree cross-border permission, mileage and overnight plans before booking. This is a different commitment from a local Swiss day trip.

These are broad seasonal patterns, not live road information. Check IG Alpine Passes and MeteoSwiss forecasts immediately before travelling. A road that remains open in winter is not automatically suitable for a Ferrari drive.

Weather, traffic and the best time to leave

June brings long days but uncertain opening dates on the highest roads. July and August offer a wider seasonal window, alongside holiday traffic and possible afternoon thunderstorms. September can be attractive outside peak holidays, although daylight shortens and cold weather becomes more likely. October needs a flexible plan because early snow may end a route's season.

Our preferred starting point is a weekday outside public holidays, leaving in the morning when conditions are suitable. That can reduce day-trip traffic but cannot guarantee quiet roads. Allow for cyclists, coaches, roadworks and slow sections. Choose a lower route when visibility, temperature or the forecast makes a high pass a poor fit.

Rental duration and mileage

A focused Klausen trip can suit six hours in favourable conditions; CHF 830 includes unlimited kilometres, while the CHF 780 option includes 200 km. The journey from Nänikon and back can exceed that allowance. A 12-hour package starts at CHF 940 with 300 km and offers more room for stops.

For an overnight trip, Weekend Escape provides 48 hours with 500 km for CHF 1’990 or 800 km for CHF 2’790. Weekday Privilege runs Monday to Friday with 700 km for CHF 2’480. A 72-hour booking is quoted individually. Mileage covers the entire rental, including the approach and return. Hotels, food and activities are separate.
